Daybreak is part of ITV's new morning lineup replacing GMTV, hosted by the presenting duo of Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. The in-house breakfast show came under the media spotlight after both presenters made the move from the BBC’s The One Show and drew an audience of 980,000 (24.4%) at 6am, providing a Performance Index figure of 98.6. This was an improvement on the three month timeslot average of 825,100 (22.39%).

Bouquet of Barbed Wire began its three-part run on ITV1 at 9pm. The psychological drama from Mammoth Screen and Ingenious Broadcasting is the second adaptation of the novel written by Andrea Newman. The first, a huge hit in 1976, starred Frank Finlay as the father with a compulsive love for his daughter. The first episode of the latest version drew an audience of 5m (19.9%), gaining a Performance Index of 99.9.

Timothy Spall: Somewhere at Sea, first shown on BBC4, began its three-part run on BBC2 at 7pm. The Steadfast series follows the actor and his wife on a tour of Britain on their Dutch barge, and drew an opening audience of 1.6m (7.4%), gaining a Performance Index of 77.2.

My Family’s Crazy Gap Year, produced by Twenty Twenty, is a six-part documentary series observing the adventures of families heading off to live in remote corners of the world. An audience of 1.1m (4.5%) watched on C4 at 9pm, which could only attract a lowly Performance Index of 61.9.

Surgery School, produced by Tiger Aspect, began its three-part run on ITV1 at 10.35pm. The series follows a group of young doctors training to become consultants on a prestigious medical course and drew an opening audience of 1.2m (9.9%), and a Performance Index of 112.7.

Him & Her is a new comedy series for BBC3 produced by Big Talk Productions and Ingenious Broadcasting, centred on the relationship of an unemployed couple. The show, which stars Being Human actor Russell Tovey, drew an audience of 567,400 (3.6%) at 10.30pm, in a slot that has averaged 501,100 (3.12%) over the past 12 months.

U Be Dead was a one-off drama from Darlow Smithson, based on a true story about a woman who stalked and threatened a psychiatrist. The dramatisation, at 9pm on ITV1, starred David Morrissey as the target and Monica Dolan as his stalker. The audience of 5m (22.8%) gave a Performance Index of 122.4

Grumpy Old Schooldays was the latest entry in the Grumpy... franchise from Liberty Bell. The programme, at 9pm on BBC2, followed the usual format of famous faces bemoaning the worst of what, in this case, are supposed to be “the happiest days of our lives”. The audience of 1.5m (6.1%), was somewhat down on the 1.7m (8.2%) for the recent Grumpy Old Holidays, and provided a below-average Performance Index figure of 54.9.

Rigoletto Live from Mantua, Act 1, shown on BBC2 at 7.15pm, was a live performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s tragic opera, starring the Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo in the title role. An audience of 640,000 (3%) watched the BBC programme, providing a Performance Index figure of 96.6.

My Funniest Year was a recorded live performance from stand-up comedian Rufus Hound, at London’s Hackey Empire, satirising the people and events of the year 2000. The TwoFour production drew an audience of 1m (6.8%) for C4 at 10pm, and a Performance Index of 120.1. An additional audience of 235,500 (2.7%) watched on C4+1, providing a Performance Index of 177.4.

Odd One In came to the end of its six-part run on ITV1 at 6.45pm. The Zeppotron-produced show, which challenged celebrity groups to spot the person with a secret from a line-up of candidates, averaged audiences of 3.2m (17.9%) in varying weekend timeslots. Last night’s final instalment attracted an improved 4.2m (24%) and a Performance Index figure of 76.6.

Live International Football, on ITV1 from 7.30pm, offered coverage of England’s clash with Bulgaria, the first of the Euro 2012 qualifying matches. Fabio Capello’s team put their World Cup woes behind them to come out fighting, with Defoe scoring the first of his three goals after just three minutes. The audience of 6.1m (27.2%) provided a solid Performance Index of 122.4

Pete Versus Life ended with its fifth episode at 10pm on C4. The Objective Productions comedy, which stars Rafe Spall as a sports writer whose life and decisions are viewed with the help of sports-style commentary and action replays, has averaged 1.3m (6.9%) across the five programmes. The final episode was watched by 1.1m (15.3%), giving a slightly below-average Performance Index of 87.8.

The Hunt for Britain’s Sex Traffickers ended its three-part run on C4 at 9pm. The series followed the work of police units across the UK and attracted 1.8m (8.11%) for the first two episodes. The October Films programme was broadcast over consecutive nights and drew a final audience of 1.6m (7.4%), and a Performance Index of 98.4.

The King Is Dead is a new comedy panel show for BBC3 starring The Inbetweeners actor Simon Bird, in which three celebrity contestants assume the role of ‘interviewee’ for a hypothetical public role. The spoof game show, produced by Talkback Thames, attracted an audience of 479,700 (3.1%) at 10.30pm, similar to the weeknight timeslot average of 499,600 (3.1%).

Secret Girlfriend began its 12-part run on Fiver at 10.30pm. The US comedy is produced by Fremantle America and centres on the escapades of a young man trying to keep his new girlfriend a secret from his unstable ex. The programme attracted an audience of 57,100 (0.4%), down on the 12-month timeslot average of 120,600 (0.75%).
