The Brit Awards were back at London’s O2 Arena for the annual music awards ceremony, featuring the top of the current pops. Adele was again a winner, scooping two Brits to add to her six Grammy Awards, and Ed Sheeran also took home two awards, including Best Breakthrough Act. Actor James Corden again hosted the proceedings, which began at 8.30pm on ITV1 (and overran by several minutes). The Brits TV production was a spectacle seen by 5.9m (24.1%) , attracting a Performance Index of 121.1. A further 300,400 (1.4%) watched on ITV1+1 from 9.30pm.
How to Grow a Planet completed its exploration of the influence of plants on the development of our present-day Earth, with Iain Stewart explaining the impact of humble grass on human development. The third programme in the BBC Scotland documentary series grew an audience of 1.4m (5.6%) at 9pm on BBC2, giving a Performance Index of 64.8 and bringing the series average to 1.6m (6.4%).
Timothy Spall: All at Sea joins the actor and his wife, Shane, on another leg of their journey by barge around the British Isles. The previous series, Back at Sea, averaged 461,900 viewers (2.1%) for the episode premieres on BBC4. The new season, produced by Spall’s company Barge Pole, began at 8.30pm on BBC4 with 473,683 (1.9%), and a Performance Index of 138.9.
Whitney’s Addictions: Death of a Diva was a fast-turnaround documentary from North One on CH5 at 10pm, replacing the scheduled CSI:NY repeat The sad death of Whitney Houston has generated a huge amount of coverage worldwide, and this was evidenced in viewing figures of 1.3m (7.3%) a Performance Index of 148.9. A further 93,442 (1%) watched on CH5+1 at 11pm, garnering a very strong Performance Index of 199.5.
